Due to a rather overloaded truck cutting our internet and phone lines, we have been unable to update the blog over the last few days. Here are the backdated entries starting Sunday 15 July.

15 JULY 2013 ARRIVAL AND SET UP

The Boncuklu Höyük summer excavation has officially begun! It has been a hive of activity at the site compound for the last few days, re-organising the laboratories, setting up tents and admiring our brand new kitchen. The first volunteers arrived this morning ready and eager to start the 2013 season with a bang. We have a mixture of professional archaeologists, undergraduate students and P.H.D. students from the United Kingdom and Australia. As we settle in to the camp and Hayiroğlu  village we have been discussing the Konya Plain’s remarkable landscape with oceans of sunflowers and trains of cows led to pasture each day. Tonight we will enjoy the fantastic traditional cuisine prepared by our own cook from the village, Hacer Güven. Tomorrow we start to remove the back fill.

15 JULY 2013 ARRIVAL AND SET UP 5

This year we have a much larger kitchen, a building solely designated to the feeding of hungry archaeologists. Plans this season include painting and decorating this important building in the Mevlana style.
