The Boncuklu project

Every photograph has a source. Reconstructed buildings and modern teaching spaces are labelled accordingly.

Three traces from the project archive

The original project images are shown in full, resized and encoded as WebP. They are not covered by the licence of the separate 2026 paper. The archive capture date is not the date of the ancient object or necessarily the photograph.

  • Read the ground: Boncuklu Project archive; photographer or image-maker not identified. Archived source. This historical plan shows selected areas. It is not a current visitor map or a complete plan of the final excavation.
  • Follow an object: Boncuklu Project archive; photographer or image-maker not identified. Archived source. The photograph does not independently establish age, function or raw-material origin. The field note supplies the identification; these are not obsidian tools.
  • Look closer: Boncuklu Project archive; photographer or image-maker not identified. Archived source. The archive identifies the plant material. This image alone does not establish a particular meal or the quantity eaten. The instrument annotation reads 14/02/2011; it is not the archaeological date.

Photographs from the 2026 paper

Source: Chaddock, S., Fairbairn, A., Baird, D. and Mustafaoğlu, G., Archaeobotanical storytelling in a landscape of the mind (2026). The article and these figures are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. We cropped the composite figures into panels, resized and encoded them as WebP. Photograph dates are not stated; 2026 is the publication year.

  • Replica house, visitor centre, teaching garden and pond: Andrew Fairbairn; Figure 6a–d.
  • Site landscape: Chaddock et al.; Figure 1a. We do not infer the photographer’s name from the map credit.
  • Location and landscape map: Figure 1c. Map credit: DB in the source caption. This is a published scientific illustration, not a live directions map.

Historical downloads

Original project PDFs and recovered historical image files retain their original credits. They are supplied as dated project resources under the project rights confirmed by the domain owner. Check each publication before reusing its illustrations.

Typography and graphic mark

Literata and Source Sans 3 are distributed under the SIL Open Font License; licence texts accompany the self-hosted files. The oval graphic mark is a new design for this web edition, not the historical project logo or a drawing of a specific find.
