6 SEPTEMBER 2013: BACKFILLING BEGINS

Today was the last day of backfilling. Armed with shovels, wheelbarrows and hundreds and hundreds of sugar sacks we carefully covered the trenches with layers of geotex and soil. We used the sugar sacks to protect features, walls and sections. The trenches are backfilled each year to protect them from the elements, erosion and possible vandalism. Here are a few photos of our progress.

We have hired the local young men to help with this exhausting task and as a reward for all, had an impromptu soccer match, the Boncuklu Gelengis were reunited once more and were horribly trounced by the village team.
