2013 dig season approaching….

It is time to undo the work of last year (see above) and remove the backfill from Boncuklu’s trenches as the 2013 excavation is just around the corner! This year we have a large multi-national team digging from July 15th to September 11th.

We will be digging 3 Neolithic houses, a series of special purpose buildings, midden (rubbish) deposits, and external activity areas in 4 trenches (Areas H,M,N,P), as well as surface scraping to identify the presence of additional houses and activity areas. There will also be a programme of coring to understand the environment around the site.

As well this we will be developing a new visitor centre funded by the Ethem Sancak/Hedef Alliance and site information for local schoolkids, their teachers and the wider community in Turkish and English funded by The Wenner-Gren Foundation For Anthropological Research. That information can be downloaded for free from this website from October 2013 (see our Education Downloads section by clicking this link).

Also, we will have a daily blog update to keep you abreast of developments on site so watch this space.
