For the second year running students have come to Boncuklu to take part in our fieldschool accredited by the Institute for Field Research (https://www.ifrglobal.org/). The 5 week school includes one week of site visits and lectures led by Doug Baird, followed by 4 weeks of excavation during which participants undertake a 2 day visit to Cappadocia, including visits to Aşıklı Höyük excavations and the Kaletepe obsidian workshops. Supplemented by discussions in the trench, lab and field lecture theatre by our team of specialists the school aims to introduce attendees to the archaeology and cultural heritage of Turkey as well as the single context excavation. This year we hosted 6 IFR students who quickly became core team members and left with many new friends, especially after the mid-season party which they organised, complete with awards and a wonderful celebratory sculpture, modelled here by four of their number. We look forward to welcoming more IFR students in the years to come and wish this year’s scholars all the best in the future.
